Quote Deciphering

"To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that's all."-Oscar Wilde.

This quote may seem self explanatory, but I'd like to dive deeper, and explore the possibilities written in-between the lines.

If you think about majority of the population, the ones who work 9-5 at a job they don't actually like, they just work to pay the bills. As the saying goes,"Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life", so many people say this but in reality if you asked most people they'd probably say they don't really enjoy the work they do daily. But then again, I'm not really one to judge, since I have fallen into living in the same routine of life daily, never changing it. I'm sure that most people can agree to living their life in the same way. Living the same predictable day over and over again. I think that a big reason for this is that possibly, the predictability of the routine can provide a certain space of comfort.

Do we live the boring lives that we don't necessarily enjoy because, we are afraid of change? It makes me wonder, how many people have sat on their deathbed's swimming in regret. How many have wished for only one more day, to live the life they knew they always wanted to? How many people thought that if they could just go back, they would do it?

The sad reality is that there are probably so many people who have died, the last thoughts being consumed by regret, and it's like a tragic song, that we may all know the lyrics to one day.

This isn't meant to be a dark, or even bitter take on circumstantial life, it's more or less an awakening. For whoever the few who may read this, let this be a calling to live. Don't let yourself die thinking about what you never accomplished. Instead let yourself find the moment that you want to define your life, don't let that moment be one that you lived just because you had to. Let yourself bloom into a person that you choose, and live through everyday with a sense of comfort, in knowing that you are you, and that you live to do more than exist.
